It’s been over three decades since journalist Stuart Nulman and I worked together in the late 1980s at The Weekly Herald, a west-end Montreal newspaper that boasted a delightful mix of colourful stories with striking magazine-style visuals.

So I was elated when Stuart contacted me to offer some of his travel articles to be posted on our ad-free journalism site. What struck me when we recently chatted over coffee was how he has retained over the many years I have known him his unquenchable enthusiasm for writing – despite the increasingly difficult economic environment for both newspapers and journalists.

No matter the season or weather conditions, Stuart always has his suitcase at the ready in preparation for a new travel adventure. A lifelong trivia buff, he has a keen eye for hidden cultural and historical gems at every destination he visits, as evidenced by the insights he has shared about the attractions of Seattle, Washington.

In the future, Stuart promises to provide our readers with a writeup of his recent VIP tour of that city’s Climate Pledge Arena, powered by 100% renewable energy and home to the NHL’s Seattle Kraken. He told me that he hopes to write about a Canadian vacation destination this summer.

I’m happy to add more travel articles on our BestStory.ca site, keeping in mind that as of 2023 tourism was an industry worth $11.3 trillion (USD) globally and projected to grow 5.5% annually between 2024 and 2032, according to zionmarketresearch.com. In other words, a lot of people like to leave town on vacation!

Travel is about more than being entertained. For many of us, it’s an educational experience that can provide an opportunity to learn about the interrelated histories of peoples around the world. Making new “friends” and acquaintances allows us to discover that we have more in common than we have differences, no matter where we live and what language we speak.

It sure seems as though Stuart made new friends during his fascinating tour of America’s ‘Emerald City’!
