In conformity with a privacy law known as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) implemented on May 25, 2018 by the European Union, BestStory.ca now asks for the “unambiguous consent" of readers who would like to receive email notifications from us via MailChimp whenever we post on BestStory.ca new, original articles that could be of interest to you – usually once every few months.
In order to send you new story notifications, BestStory.ca needs readers to provide us with their full names and email addresses. The GDPR considers this information to be ”non-sensitive personal data”; BestStory.ca does not use it for any purpose other than to notify you that a new article has been posted on our website. We use MailChimp to send out, track and store these email notifications.
MailChimp states on its website that it is “committed to compliance with the GDPR”, but its Privacy Policy says that it reserves the right to use such personal information to “support and improve” its service – among other purposes. MailChimp’s full Privacy Policy can be found at: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/
MailChimp says that it delivers “billions of emails a month for millions of users” and has multiple “world-class data centers around the United States” with top-level digital and physical security in place in order to protect the personal information of email recipients. Full information on their security measures can be found at: https://mailchimp.com/about/security/
If you click the button below which says, “Send me story updates”, you will be sent to the MailChimp site, where you will be able to sign up to receive notifications when new stories are posted on BestStory.ca. As well, we will explain in more detail why and how under the European law known as GDPR we are asking you, our readers, to give us your “unambiguous consent” if you wish to receive our story update notifications.
Sincerely,
Warren Perley – Editor, BestStory.ca
